Decimal ratings allow reviewers to give more precise feedback by using scores like 3.5, 4.2, or 4.8, instead of whole numbers only. This added granularity helps distinguish performance more clearly—especially when team members are closely matched.
You can enable decimal ratings in Keka's Review Cycle configuration to allow half-star feedback across multiple sections.
Steps to enable and use decimal rating in reviews
Go to the Performance module.
Click the Reviews tab.
In the left menu, select Review Cycles.
Click + Create Review Cycle at the top right
In the Start Review Setup window, choose between Quick setup (for minimal configuration) or Advanced setup (for more customisation).
Click on "Verify Setup" to continue with the advanced setup process.
Complete the initial setup fields for your cycle as needed.
Once in the Review Form section, go to the Rating Scale tab.
You can see if your preferred Rating Scale (e.g., 7-scale) is already added.
If not, you can click on Manage Scales to add or modify the rating scales (e.g., Decimal Rating Scale).
Under the Manage Rating Scales window, you can select additional scales such as UK Rating Scale or Decimal Rating Scale by checking the respective boxes. Click Save to confirm your selection.
In the Review Form section, select which sections you would like to include for the Self and Reporting Manager reviewers, such as Questions, Goals, and Core Values.
To enable decimal ratings in reviews, go to the Goals section, select the desired timeframe, and adjust the reviewer settings accordingly.
Click on Configure form order & potential rating to adjust the order of review sections (e.g., Questions, Goals, Competencies, Core Values, etc.), and to specify if ratings should be based on both performance and potential.
Under the Potential rating section, check the option to Allow reviewers to provide potential rating.
Save all changes.
Configure the Response Type and Rating Type for each reviewer section (e.g., Decimal Rating Scale for goals).
After reviewing all settings, Click Next to proceed with the rest of the cycle setup.
How Decimal Star Ratings Work
Full stars represent whole numbers (e.g., 3 stars = 3.0).
Half stars represent decimal values (e.g., 3 full stars + 1 half star = 3.5).
The exact rating (e.g., 3.5) appears beside the stars along with the rating label (e.g., "Meets expectations - 2").
Example in Action
Go to the Review Form from your Inbox.
Select the employee and open their review form.
In a section like Questions or Core Values, hover over the stars and select the rating (you can click half-stars too).
Add any comments if required.
Click Next to continue the review.
Options & Variants
You can assign decimal ratings for any section where numeric scoring is used, including:
Questions
KRAs or Goals
Skills
Core Values/Behaviours
Decimal rating is especially helpful when:
You want to capture nuanced differences in performance.
Teams are highly competitive or performance is tightly clustered.
Rating labels require more flexibility than whole numbers.
Notes & Tips
Tip: Make sure the Decimal rating scale is enabled before reviewers begin their evaluations. This ensures all relevant sections reflect the correct input method.
