Introduction
Keka supports integration with biometric devices such as fingerprint scanners and face recognition systems to track employee attendance and manage secure access.
This article explains the four supported integration methods so you can select the one that best fits your organisation’s needs. Each method has its own advantages, limitations, and prerequisites.
Integration Methods
1. SQL-Based Integration
With SQL-based integration, your biometric device sends attendance data into an MS-SQL database. Keka then reads the data from the database to process attendance.
-
Pros:
Customizable data flow
Reliable and secure storage
Works with most SQL-compatible devices
-
Cons:
Requires SQL knowledge for setup
Some devices don’t support SQL export
Note: Keka supports only MS-SQL for this method.
2. SDK-Based Integration
This method uses a Software Development Kit (SDK) from the biometric device manufacturer to connect directly with Keka. It offers real-time data exchange and more control.
-
Pros:
Deep customization and control over data flow
Real-time syncing between device and Keka
-
Cons:
Requires manufacturer’s SDK (device-specific)
More complex to implement
3. Push-Based Integration
Here, the biometric device automatically pushes attendance data to Keka at regular intervals. Once set up, the process is fully automated.
-
Pros:
Automatic updates with no manual effort
Easy to maintain once configured
-
Cons:
Not all devices support push data
Needs a stable network connection
4. API-Based Integration
With API-based integration, the biometric device communicates with Keka through application programming interfaces (APIs). This allows flexible and direct data transfer.
-
Pros:
Works with a wide variety of devices
Enables fast and direct communication
-
Cons:
May require technical expertise for setup
Some older devices may lack API support
Choosing the Right Method
Each integration method has unique strengths:
SQL: Reliable and adaptable
SDK: Customizable with real-time updates
Push: Effortless, automated syncing
API: Flexible and scalable
Choose based on your device capabilities, IT infrastructure, and organizational needs.
