Overview
Core HR now supports hierarchical organization structures, enabling companies to link Business Units (BU) with Departments and create Department–Sub Department hierarchies. This enhancement helps enterprise organizations accurately represent their internal structure within the system.
With this update, HR teams can assign employees to the correct organizational entity and use the hierarchy for reporting, analytics, and operational workflows.
What’s New
Business Unit – Department Linking
Organizations with multiple business structures can now link departments to specific Business Units. This allows the system to represent enterprise org structures such as BU → Department → Sub-Department.
Improved Org Setup for Multiple Business Structures
When adding or editing departments, admins must now select the associated Business Unit (for tenants with multiple business structures). This ensures proper hierarchy mapping.
Hierarchy-Aware Filters Across the Product
Reports, analytics, grids, and employee filters now reflect the BU–Department relationship, making it easier to segment and analyze employees based on organizational structure.
Support for Same Department Names Across Different BUs
Departments with the same name can exist under different Business Units, allowing enterprises to mirror real-world structures more accurately.
Migration Support for Existing Customers
Existing organizations can migrate from a single business structure to a multi-business structure, enabling them to link departments with Business Units without disrupting existing employee data.
Archived Group Handling Improvements
Department and Business Unit changes are managed carefully during migration to ensure historical data (including exited employee records) remains accurate and unchanged.
Impact
This enhancement helps enterprises:
- Represent multi-level organizational hierarchies in Core HR
- Assign employees to accurate org entities
- Use hierarchy-based filters across reports, analytics, and workflows
- Prepare for future custom hierarchy capabilities within the platform.
