Overview
We’ve introduced a set of enhancements to improve Form 24Q and year-end payroll compliance workflows in India Payroll. These updates focus on strengthening data validations, improving tax calculation transparency, and guiding payroll admins through critical post-payroll actions.
The goal of this release is to help organizations avoid common errors during Form 24Q/Form 16 generation, reduce manual corrections, and minimize support tickets during the peak compliance period.
Key Enhancements
1. Improved Data Validations for Form 24Q
Additional validations have been implemented to prevent common data issues that can lead to Form 24Q filing failures.
These validations include:
- Detecting special characters in House Property owner details
- Identifying extra spaces in TAN numbers
- Validating PAN numbers for extra spaces or special characters
- Improved handling of employment period validations for rejoined employees
These validations ensure that incorrect data is flagged early, allowing payroll admins to correct issues before generating statutory reports.
2. Challan Payment Date Validation
A new validation has been introduced when entering challan details for Form 24Q generation.
The system now ensures that challan payment dates follow chronological order across months.
If a payment date for a month is earlier than the previous month’s payment date, the system displays an error message such as:
"Payment date for [Month] cannot be earlier than payment date for [Previous Month]. Please verify challan dates."
This prevents incorrect challan entries that could otherwise cause filing inconsistencies during TDS reporting.
3. View Calculation Enabled for Selected Clients
The View Calculation feature has been enabled for 500 designated clients, allowing payroll administrators to access detailed payroll calculation breakdowns directly from the payroll sheet.
With this capability, admins can:
- View detailed component-level payroll calculations for employees
- Understand how salary components, deductions, and taxes are derived
- Verify payroll results without raising support requests
This enhancement improves transparency in payroll processing.
4. Enhanced Tax Calculation Visibility
To help payroll admins better understand tax changes, the system now displays month-over-month tax calculation changes during payroll processing.
Within the employee tax management section:
- Users can see tax variations across months
- Visual indicators highlight increases or decreases in tax deductions
- This provides clearer visibility into how payroll updates affect employee taxes
This reduces confusion around tax computation changes during payroll runs.
5. Payslip Release Notification After Payroll Lock
A new in-app reminder has been introduced to ensure payslips are released after payroll is finalized.
Once payroll is successfully locked, the system displays a notification banner reminding admins to release payslips.
Key behaviors include:
- The banner appears immediately after payroll lock
- Clicking “Release Payslips” takes the user directly to the payslip release page
- The banner can be dismissed for the session
- If payroll is rolled back and locked again, the reminder will reappear
This helps ensure that employees receive their payslips promptly after payroll completion.
Impact
These enhancements help organizations:
- Prevent data quality issues during Form 24Q and Form 16 generation
- Ensure accurate and compliant TDS reporting
- Improve visibility into payroll tax calculations
- Reduce support queries during peak compliance season
- Ensure timely payslip distribution after payroll processing
