Until now, once a performance review was published, there was no formal way to confirm that employees had viewed or read their review. This created gaps in transparency, accountability, and follow-up across review cycles.
Previously, some organisations enabled employee acknowledgement of ratings, but this did not guarantee that employees actually reviewed the complete feedback.
To solve this, we’re introducing the Employee Review Acknowledgement step.
What’s New?
The new Employee Acknowledgement Required option ensures that employees must:
View their final review.
Acknowledge that they have read it.
Optionally add comments or feedback.
Once the employee acknowledges their review:
A timestamped record is stored.
HR and Reporting Managers/ Performance Admin can clearly see Acknowledged / Not Acknowledged status.
The acknowledgment cannot be edited or withdrawn.
A proper review completion trail is maintained.
This significantly reduces HR queries like “Has the employee seen their review yet?” and brings closure to the review cycle.
Migration for Existing Customers
For customers who had previously enabled Employee Acknowledgement Required under the old system:
These settings are now mapped to Employee Approval Required.
You can switch to the new Acknowledgement option anytime within the Review Cycle settings.
If enabled, employees will receive an inbox notification prompting them to acknowledge the review with a clear one-click action.
Where to Find This Setting
Go to Performance and click on Reviews.
Under Reviews, go to Review Cycles.
Click on +Create Review Cycle or open any Review Cycle by clicking on Edit option.
Navigate to Summary & Publish.
-
Under Is employee acknowledgement or approval required?
-

New: Smart Notifications
To improve clarity and communication, new email notifications have been introduced:
-
Requesting Employee Acknowledgement
Subject: Your Performance Review is Ready – Please Acknowledge
Prompts the employee to view and acknowledge their review, with an optional comment box. -
Requesting Employee Approval
(For customers using the approval workflow)
Subject: Take Action on Your Performance Review
Employee chooses to approve or reject the review. -
Notification to Manager After Acknowledgement
Subject: [Employee Name] Has Acknowledged Their Performance Review
Notifies the manager that the employee has acknowledged and optionally commented on their review.
Why This Matters
Ensures employees formally review their performance feedback.
Strengthens transparency and communication clarity.
Provides a compliant audit trail of review delivery.
Creates a clean, well-documented review closure for all stakeholders.
To learn more, refer to the article on how to enable or disable employee acknowledgement after the review is released.
