Employers often receive court-ordered wage withholding notices such as child support, spousal support, bankruptcy orders, tax levies, and other garnishments. Keka helps you manage supported garnishment deductions, track remittances after payroll, and view employee deduction mappings from a single place.
This article explains how to manage garnishments, update employee deductions, and use the Post-Tax Deductions report.
What's supported?
Keka currently supports the following pre-defined court-ordered garnishment deductions:
| Deduction | Payroll API Type |
|---|---|
| Child Support | Child Support |
| Spousal Support / Alimony | Miscellaneous Garnishment |
| Bankruptcy (Chapter 13) | Miscellaneous Garnishment |
Note: Bankruptcy (Chapter 13) is available as a deduction type. If an employee receives a Chapter 13 bankruptcy wage order, creditor garnishments are typically stayed by the court. Pause those deductions manually if required. Child support, spousal support, and tax levies continue independently.
Access the Deductions & Garnishments page
- Go to Payroll Admin.
- Select the Bulk Operation.
Click on Garnishments and deductions
- The page contains two tabs:
- Remittance Tracker
Employee Deductions
Remittance Tracker
The Remittance Tracker provides a consolidated view of active garnishment orders and helps payroll admins track payments made to external agencies after payroll has been processed.
You can:
- View all active garnishment orders
- Add or update remittance details
- Record payment details
- Mark remittances as paid
- Filter records for easier tracking
Add or update remittance details
For every employee garnishment, you can maintain remittance information such as:
- Payee / Agency
- Reference / Case Number
- Notes
Once these details are added, they are automatically populated for future payroll records of the same employee and deduction.
Mark a garnishment as paid
After remitting the deducted amount to the issuing agency:
- Open the required garnishment record.
- Click Mark as Paid.
- Enter:
- Payment Date
- Payment Method
- Confirmation / Check Number
- Notes
- Save the details.
The payment status is updated and recorded in Activity Logs.
Employee Deductions
The Employee Deductions tab provides a flat list of all active post-tax deductions currently mapped to employees.
Unlike the Remittance Tracker, this view is not payroll-cycle specific. It displays employee deduction mappings, while the Year-to-Date (YTD) amount is sourced from payroll.
Only active deductions are displayed.

The deduction is immediately mapped to the employee.

Things to remember
- Only active deductions appear in the Employee Deductions tab.
- The Remittance Tracker displays payroll records only when the payroll pay date falls within the selected date range.
- The maximum selectable date range is 90 days.
- Remittance details entered for an employee are reused for future records of the same deduction.
- Bankruptcy (Chapter 13) does not automatically pause other garnishments. If required, payroll admins must manually pause creditor garnishments based on the court order. Child support, spousal support, and tax levies continue independently.
