Switching remuneration type of employees

As an admin in Keka, managing employee remuneration types is now more flexible than ever. Keka provides multiple remuneration types — Annual, Daily, and the newly added Hourly, Monthly. This allows you to tailor salary structures to meet diverse organizational requirements. Here's everything you need to know about switching between remuneration types.

Why Choose Different Remuneration Types?

Organizations often have employees with varying employment arrangements:

  • Annual Remuneration: Ideal for employees with year-long contracts and fixed yearly pay.
  • Monthly Remuneration: Perfect for short-term contracts (e.g., 6 to 12 months) where annual compensation may not be relevant or required.
  • Daily Remuneration: Commonly used for employees with daily wages, such as contractors or temporary staff.
  • Hourly Remuneration: Specifically designed for employees paid based on working hours, often found in retail, part-time, or gig roles.

Switching remuneration types ensures employees are compensated accurately and in alignment with their employment terms.

Go to the Payroll (1) section and click on the Settings (2) tab, after which you will be directed to the Pay Groups (3) tab. Here, you can go to the desired Pay Group for which you wish to check the remuneration settings and click on Configure (4).

Now, go the Pay cycle (1) tab and at the bottom of this page you can check if both Annual, Monthly, Hourly and Daily Remuneration are enabled or not.

Now, let us take a look at the steps for switching the remuneration type for employees.

There are two methods to switching the remuneration type for an employee -

  • From the payroll admin operations
  • From the employee profile

From the Payroll admin operations

Go to the Payroll (1) section, then click on the Payroll Admin (2) tab. Now, you will be directed to the Operations (3) tab.

Scroll down to the Payroll Status, Tax Regime & Financial Details card, and click on Employee Remuneration Details located at the very bottom.

Here, you can select the desired pay group and apply various other filters to get a tailored list of employees. Once done, you can scroll to the desired employee you want to change the remuneration type for and click on Update under the Actions column.

A new window will open up where you will be able to view the current remuneration (1) details of the employee. Add the new remuneration details (2) and click on Update (3).

If you want to change the remuneration type for multiple employees at the same time in bulk, then select all the desired employees you want to make the change for by clicking on the checkbox (1) next to their respective names, and then click on Change Remuneration (2).

A pop-up window will appear prompting you to state the remuneration type you want to switch to and the pay cycle from when this change should be effective. Once done, click on Continue.

A new window will open up where you can add the necessary details such as their new salary (1) and salary structure (2), and then click on Update (3).
