Unpaid Leave
Unpaid Leave is a critical leave type for scenarios where employees need to take time off beyond their paid leave entitlements. This leave type ensures that employees can manage their personal or family needs without affecting their employment status, even if their paid leave balance is exhausted.
Setting up Unpaid Leave Type
1. Accrual Section
In the accrual section you will determine all the settings related to accrual of leave

- This leave is calculated in: Choose between days or hours.
- Yearly quota: If days are selected, you can set a specific number of days or choose unlimited. If hours are selected, the yearly quota is adjusted accordingly.
2. Leave Application Section
- Allow half day leave: Option to permit half-day leave.
- Allow quarter day leave: Additional option to allow quarter-day leave.
- Prior notice needed:
- Set the number of working days notice required for leave requests.
- You can specify different requirements for different durations of leave (e.g., 5 working days notice for 3 or more days of leave).
b) Leave Application Restrictions:
- This leave is unavailable when there is balance in: Restrict the availability of unpaid leave if there is a balance in another specified leave type.
c) Sandwich Policy:

3. Approval Section
- Leave request requires an approval: This must be checked if approvals are necessary.
- Approval Chain:
- Define the levels of approval required for unpaid leave requests.
- Assign specific roles or employees to each level of the approval chain.
- Additional options include auto-approval if an approver is missing and whether to email approvers for every request.
Depending on whether the yearly quota is set in days or hours, the configurations in the leave application settings may vary slightly. However, the fundamental options for configuring unpaid leave remain consistent, ensuring that the process is flexible and can be tailored to the specific needs of the organization.
