Overview
We’ve made major upgrades to Keka’s Advanced Auto Shift Assigner to better support complex and 24/7 shift patterns, especially in manufacturing and shift-heavy operations. These improvements strengthen multi-day shift handling, missing swipe scenarios, and regularisation timelines—resulting in more accurate attendance and payroll, fewer manual corrections, and better compliance.
What’s Improved
1) Better handling of multi-day and cross-day shifts
Shift patterns that run overnight or span across days are now handled more accurately based on your day definition.
This improves shift assignment and downstream payroll calculations for continuous operations.
2) Extended regularisation windows for shift-based scenarios
Regularisation is no longer restricted only by calendar day end for shift cases that extend into the next day.
Employees can regularise attendance in a way that aligns with shift end and the configured day definition, reducing regularisation gaps in overnight/multi-day shifts.
3) Smarter treatment of missing swipes
Previously, missing in punch could lead to no shift assigned and the day marked Absent, even when a valid out punch existed.
Now:
If an out punch is detected within the default shift slot, the day is treated as Present with missing logs (instead of Absent).
If the punch falls outside the default slot, the day is treated as No entries logged.
Once the employee adds the missing in-log, the system re-runs shift assignment and assigns the correct shift as per your auto-shift rules.
4) More consistent assignment during shift policy changes
When shift policies change, shift assignment runs as per the policy version active on the day of change, improving consistency and reducing edge-case mismatches.
Why This Matters
Manufacturing and 24/7 operations run on strict shift schedules and compliance requirements. Earlier limitations around overnight shifts, regularisation across days, and missing swipe logic caused:
Inaccurate attendance
Payroll discrepancies
High manual corrections
Compliance risk and reduced trust in the system
These enhancements close those gaps and make the experience more reliable for enterprise, shift-heavy customers.
Impact
More accurate attendance and payroll data
Reduced manual corrections for admins and payroll teams
Better shift compliance for 24/7 operations
Improved employee experience by avoiding unfair absence marking due to missing swipe edge cases
