Leave & Attendance FAQs

How to add/remove sandwich leave for any leave type?

Sandwich leaves are days off that an employee avails on either side of scheduled office closures, such as weekends and national holidays. However, although the office is closed on those days, they are treated as leave and deducted from the employee's leave balance if they are sandwiched. Certain organizations allow sandwich policy of leaves and some don't. Keka provides admins with an option to add/remove sandwich leave for any leave type.

Sandwich policy means clubbing of leaves with holidays or week-offs

Let us take a look at the path to enable/disable sandwich leave policy -

Go to the Time Attend (1) section, then click on Leave (2). and you will be directed to Leave Plans (3).

Now, select the Leave Plan & leave type under which you want to add/remove sandwich leave policy, and then click on the 3 dots (1) on the right hand side and click on Settings (2) of the Leave Type as shown below -

Over the next window, navigate to the Leave Application page, scroll down and click on the check boxes related to Sandwich Policy (1) as highlighted in the screenshot. Once settings are configured, click on Save & Close (2).

If you want to allow employees to take half day leave right before/after a holiday/week-off, i.e., if an employee wants to apply for half day leave, and you want that it should not get clubbed and should not be considered as sandwich leave, then configure the settings as shown below to enable the same.

To do this, select the first two checkboxes under Sandwich Policy. This will give you a dropdown of options where you can choose "Ignore half-day leave"  for weekly offs and "Ignore half-day leave" for holidays. Once settings are configured, click on Save & Close (3).

We hope that you now have a better understanding of how to add/remove sandwich leave policy for any leave type on Keka.
